DABBAS NAMED NEW ROYAL JORDANIAN CEO
The Royal Jordanian (RJ) board of directors has appointed Hussein Dabbas as president and chief executive of the airline.
Dabbas will take over the reins of RJ on August 1, succeeding Samer Majali, who stepped down from Royal Jordanian to become chief executive of the Bahrain- based Gulf Air, according to an RJ statement released on Wednesday.
RJ Chairman Nasser Lozi stressed that electing Dabbas reflects the board of directors’ commitment to continue the company's development strategy, which has been implemented since Majali assumed the presidency of the airline in 2001.
During Majali's tenure as president/CEO, the airline witnessed fleet modernisation and developed its route network, IT systems and services offered to passengers, according to the statement.
Lozi extended to Dabbas the board's wishes for success in managing the national carrier of Jordan and attaining the airline’s future goals.
He also expressed his gratitude for Majali's “fruitful, valuable efforts” while serving as president, the statement said.
Dabbas first joined Royal Jordanian in 1979. He holds a master's degree in international management and marketing from Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona, and a bachelor’s of science in business administration from the University of San Francisco in California.
Dabbas held several positions at RJ, mainly in the commercial and marketing sectors, the last being vice president of marketing, sales and services, a post he has held since 2005, the statement said.
He served as head of the marketing and sales department between 2001 and 2005, and assistant vice president for passengers sales and marketing between 1996 and 1999. Between 1992 and 1996, Dabbas held the position of general manager for RJ’s US operations in New York, and assistant vice president of marketing between 1989 and 1992.
Dabbas is a member of the Jordan Tourism Board, the IATA Industry Affairs Committee, the RJ representative to the Arab Air Carriers Organisation commercial committee and the oneworld commercial committee. He is also a board member of Royal Wings charter airline, and head of the management committee of Royal Tours, according to RJ.
